Deep Dish Pizza
So, ok...... a couple of weeks ago I was craving this pizza from my Clean Eating cookbook so I dove head first into making the homemade clean crust (which was some work!) before even realizing that it was going to take longer that night than I was able to wait since it was already 5 o'clock (sigh). So, I went ahead & finished making it & threw both balls of pizza dough in the freezer for another day. Today was that day! I set out the dough yesterday & made the pizza for dinner tonight! It was sooooooo good!!!!! I am not posting the detailed recipe but you can find it on the clean eating magazine website I'm sure. I used their dough recipe but the toppings I used were just my usual favorite toppings I use when I make pizza on 1 half & the other half I made the way my mom likes her pizza. I used extra lean ground beef, sliced grape tomatoes, sauteed onions, green bell peppers, yellow banana peppers & mushrooms. Black olives & extra meat & cheese were on her side. There are 2 layers of fat free (i like 2% better for pizza because it melts better but they were out) mozzarella cheese. The very first layer is cheese (which is new for me) , then you put on the veggies, meat, etc & sauce (I always use no sugar added spaghetti sauce that I thicken up w tomato paste & season w garlic & oregano) then you add another layer of cheese & bake! It's one of those recipes that I don't even try to figure out the nutrition content on because there is too complicated! When you know all your ingredients are clean & you eat in moderation & use good judgement (like, eat light during the day if you are going to eat something heavier that night or vice versa) then it's ok to have meals like this sometimes..... I ate lighter today so tonight I ate 2 small pieces of the veggie side but picked the top layer of cheese off! It was really tasty & if you are a maker of homemade pizza then you know that the crust is the kicker! Making a homemade healthy pizza crust that is good is a challenge! This one was a little work but totally worth it! And I love that it made 2 balls of dough & that they were freezable so I still have another one to use another time! I will definitely use this crust recipe from now on for my pizza!
